Kwon Yuri (born December 5, 1989) also known by her given name Yuri, is a South Korean idol singer, dancer, actress and promotional model. She is member of popular south korean girl group, Girls' Generation.

Biography

Kwon Yuri was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea on December 5, 1989. She auditioned at the SM Entertainment Casting System and joined the company in 2001 after finishing in second place in the 2001 SM Youth Best Dancer Contest. She then underwent training for 5 years and 11 months before her debut.

She graduated from NeungGok High School in 2008 and is currently attending at Chung-Ang University along with fellow group member, Sooyoung and Seungri of Big Bang.[2]

She also had a small role in a television segment, The King's Boyfriend, which was part of the 2005–2006 KMTV Super Junior documentary, Super Junior Show. Yuri also played a part in the KBS sitcom Unstoppable Marriage (못말리는 결혼), alongside Sooyoung.

At the end of 2009, she cast for KBS2 reality show Invincible Youth (청춘불패) with her fellow member, Sunny. Because of Girls' Generation's international promotions, Yuri left the show along with Sunny and Hyuna of 4minute on June 2010.[3]

On December 17, 2011 Yuri has been offered to take a female lead role of the new drama "Fashion King." Yuri’s transition to a lead actress was recently supported by a member behind the production of “Fashion King”. He stated “I watched her crying in a music video. I don’t think we would run into any problems casting her on the set of a shoot. I felt she would be able to act in different roles, from a teen role to one in her twenties.” While an air-date has not been confirmed, it is scheduled to be filmed in 2012. On December 27, 2011 Yuri’s role in the Drama ‘Fashion King’ was confirmed.[4]

Singing

She and Sooyoung sang the OST for the drama Working Mom entitled Must!.

She also sang the theme song for Caribbean Bay with her fellow members Taeyeon, Seohyun, Jessica, Tiffany and k-pop boy group 2PM.

Show hosting

Yuri co-hosted the Korean music program Show! Music Core of MBC with another Girls' Generation member, Tiffany, leaving after a farewell on July 31, 2010 to focus on their Japan debut.[5]

On December 25, 2010, she was also a host MC for Christmas Show! Music Core with group mate Tiffany. Yuri was an MC for the 2010 MBC Gayo Daejeon Show which was held on December 31 at the MBC Dream Center with Tiffany & actor Ryu Shi-won.[6] She was also the MC for the 20th Seoul Music Awards which was held on January 20, 2011. She was also the MC for the 50th Anniversary Music Wave Concert which was held on March 12, 2011 together with Tiffany & Nichkhun.

On August 13, 2011 she was a MC for 2011 Incheon Korean Music Wave together with Tiffany[7] and also for K-Pop All Star Live in Niigata which was held on August 20, 2011 together with Tiffany & Sooyoung.[8]

On October 11, 2011 Yuri and Tiffany return to "Show! Music Core" as permanent MCs after a 1 year and 3 months absence. On November 12, 2011 she was a MC for K-POP Music Festival in Sydney together with Tiffany.

Promotion

She has an advertisement with Daniel Henney for Biotherm.[9] Later, on April 2010, she participated in another commercial for Biotherm with Tiffany and Sooyoung.[10]

In April 2010, she had a commercial for Everland's water park Caribbean Bay with fellow members Seohyun and Yoona, 2PM members Nichkhun, Taecyeon and Chansung.[11][12]

Songwriting

She debuted as a lyricist with the song "Mistake" (내 잘못이죠), from Girls' Generation's EP, Hoot, about a girl who falls in love and realizes her love is unrequited.
